Visualization software
Version released to Howard County Public School System in October 2007
[Download the release; 1.82MB]
The release contains the data describing the county as of 2005.
System requirements
- Java Virtual Machine (JDK or JRE) 1.4.2 or higher (1.5 recommended)
- Any operating system supporting Java
- 7.6MB free disk space
Running the software
Windows and Mac OS X. Unzip the archive file with the software.
Open the directory containing the unpacked software in a file manager, and double-click lines-visualization.jar.
Please note that it may take a few second before the main window of the software appears on the screen
(especially on slower computers).
In case, when double-clicking does not work, it usually means that Java virtual machine is not installed on this machine.
It may also mean that although Java is installed, the .jar file extension is not associated with Java.
Other operating systems (Linux and Unix) or command-line operation. Unzip the archive file with the software.
Change the current work directory to the directory containing the unpacked software. Next, type
java -jar lines-visualization.jar
Please note that it may take a few second before the main window of the software appears on the screen
(especially on slower computers).
Future release
We are in a process of preparing another release (estimated in late July). The new release will contain the data
describing the county as of 2007 (when the last redistricting process occurred in Howard County). It will also contain improved graphics,
LIC comparisons, and color optimization features.
